Match Report - 13th November 2022 - NMJFC U8 Wasps v Whaley Bridge U8
A warm and sunny Remembrance Sunday morning started with all of the teams gathered around the centre circle, perfectly observing a one-minute silence.
From the kick-off to the last minute the match was a close, tense and exciting encounter! Wasps’ games seem to be getting more entertaining each week, and the quality of football on display was certainly raised again.
Frankie C was captain for the day and started out in defence, constantly pressurising any advances and preventing danger developing. 👏
At the other end Brooke smashed a powerful shot against the post, with a huge rebound out towards the sideline - Jacob was alert and blasted the ball straight back with a looping shot over the goalkeeper and into the net! A stunning goal that will be long talked about Jacob ⚽!
Brooke soon had another great effort - this time from a free kick - and it was her turn to be alert to a rebound, placing the ball firmly beyond the goalkeeper - great goal Brooke ⚽!
After a lung-busting run from midfield and another great shot, just outside the post, it was Brooke’s turn for a break. As her name was called as substitute the spectators spontaneously started clapping, recognising her amazing performance by applauding her off the field! A great moment. 👏 🙂
There was still time for more first half excitement as James won a free kick, composed himself, and struck the ball ferociously from distance. The goalkeeper was behind it, but the pace made it impossible to hold and the ball bounced around …but not fully over the line said the referee - unlucky James! 👏
Everyone was glad to reach half time to catch their breath! There was a real buzz among the team - everyone was enjoying being part of this game. 🙂
Early in the second half James was involved again - sliding the ball through to Dylan, who gathered it, sprinted on goal, and scored – brilliant finish Dylan ⚽! …still running, Dylan slid off the pitch on his knees with James running behind to join for a celebration almost as good as the goal itself! 🙂
Backwards and forwards the action went. Then late in the game, finding some space, the ball was smashed into the net by Jacob ⚽ for his second goal of the day!
The Wasps’ goalkeepers were Dylan and Frankie C – both excellent again. 👏 👏
Sam made tackle, after tackle, after tackle, then drove forwards with the ball, made passes, and created many chances. Off the ball his movement and positioning were excellent, finding space and filling gaps, sensing opportunities and also danger. He epitomised the quality, commitment and togetherness shown by the whole team, and was rewarded with the NMJFC Player of the Match trophy 🏆!
At the end it was smiles all round for both teams, with everyone grateful to have been able to enjoy such a great game of football. 🙂 As one parent commented, “so much fun to watch, and enough drama in that one game to rival a whole world cup tournament!”
Well done Wasps!
