Match report NMJFC U14s - 25/02/23

U14s had their first meet of the season, away, against our friends from Adswood this afternoon.

With the division one league table a close affair between the current top 5 a much needed win was definitely on the minds of everyone going into the game.

A bright start for the young Millers saw them opening the scoring only 4 minutes in. A lovely corner from Liam sent directly into the box arriving perfectly for Josh our centre back to place his signature header comfortably into the bottom corner of the net.

Shortly after New Mills added to the scoreline.

Never have I seen a 13/14 year old lad take throw ins like this one! Its most definitely a bonus card our team have and one we use to our advantage.

Theo with his signature throw in released a cracker of a ball into the box which Liam received and scored his first of todays brace.

New Mills, maybe then a little complacent, conceded not long after this.

2-1 up going into the break.

Second half began and Adswood started quicker and scored early on taking it level.

With a quick response Tofty chipped the keeper to take the lead.

The next 20 minutes was end to end with some fantastic battling between the sides. Both teams creating chances either end of the pitch and both defending well when needed.

Adswood then equalised from a free kick with 10 minutes to go.

Impressed with the drive of the team in the last 5 minutes. They dug deep and  never gave up and were rewarded, with 2 minutes to go, with Liam scoring the last minute winner.

The celebration from the whole team showed exactly what this meant to them all. It was then just a case of game management for the remaining few minutes to secure the 3 points.

Always a great game against this opposition. Both teams battle with each other well and fairly. The fixture is always close and ones that can go either way on the day.

Every player contributed today to get the deserved result.
