Match Report – 4th December 2022 – Chapel Town U8 Blues v NMJFC U8 Wasps
This week the Wasps’ match was against Chapel Town U8 Blues. For those who had played in the league last year, it was a return to more typical Glossopdale weather - very chilly with a good soaking of mid-game cold rain!
The Wasps’ spirits were never dampened. The team had been boosted mid-week by a lovely message form super-speedy striker and goalkeeper Harry, who hadn’t been available recently – thanks Harry, we’ve missed you! 👍 🙂
The early exchanges were tight, with each team trading tackles and making good passes. The Wasps were first to produce a shot on target, a good low drive from Dylan, but chances would prove scarce for the rest of the game. Jacob was impressive as first half goalkeeper, remaining alert and ready when needed. 👏
Into the second half and the Wasps produced a highlight of their season so far. Playing out from the back, the ball was moved slickly up through the field with immaculate passing and movement evading a quality opponent - as the ball came to Brooke for the shot it seemed that every player had been involved in the build-up …only for a last gasp defensive tackle to deny the Wasps form scoring a perfect goal! 👏 👏 👏
The supporters were treated to a typically committed Wasps’ performance, with Brooke, Dylan, Jacob, James and Sam all supporting each other and working non-stop, from the beginning to the end. 👏
…and then there was captain for the day, and recipient of the NMJFC Player of the Match trophy 🏆, Frankie C! In the first half he was a defending machine, enjoying any and every opportunity to thwart an opposing striker! As second half goalkeeper he was awesome; whether it was bravely pouncing on the ball at the feet of a rapid forward or making an incredible multi-save – where he seemed to be showing off how many different parts of his body he could use to repeatedly repel the ball back out of goal! 👏
The Wasps enjoy being on the field with quality opponents and testing themselves. At half-times and in post-match discussions they frequently point out and praise the opposition for their good players or skilful moves – and always with appreciative smiles! 🙂 Such great character - well done Wasps!
