Match report NMJFC Under 16s - 16 May 2021

Writer: R.OakesR.Oakes

Chapel Town 1-1 New Mills Juniors U16’s

The Millers under 16’s battled to earn a point away from home against a Chapel Town side who have become something of a bogey team over the course of the season. With Alex Capraro and Max Gravestock unavailable through injury a few changes were required tactically, but nevertheless The Millers started well and should have been ahead in the opening period. Chapel settled into the game and began to threaten on the break, taking the lead on 35 minutes when the prolific Paul Evans raced clear to slot past Noah Smith and give his side the lead.

The Millers dominated possession and territory but were thwarted time and again by the stubborn Chapel defence, before finally the pressure told on 64 minutes, Fred Valter slotting home the equaliser.

The Millers had chances to win the game, the Chapel keeper producing several fine saves, but it was the home side who ended the game on top with a late flurry of corners forcing Culkin’s side to defend stoutly to earn the point & progress to the final of the Divisional Cup.

Man of the Match: Adam Hooper
