Match report NMJFC Under 9s Falcons - 05/03/23

It was derby day at Glossopdale as the Falcons lined up against the Eagles.

But before this, all teams perfectly observed a minutes silence for Paul Hawtin. A Chapel coach who we came up against many times and was part of the HPJFL family. He will be sorely missed by us all.

Back to the game and these teams train with each other every week so they know each other well. But this went out of the window as they got ready for kick-off.

After a slow start to last week’s game, the Falcons knew they had to be on the front foot as soon as the first whistle went - and they were.

Some excellent pressing from the Falcons meant the Eagles had no time on the ball and they were winning those important loose balls that led to the Falcons creating a number of chances early in the first half.

The Eagles goalkeeper, Zac, had made some excellent early saves and it was clear it was going to take something special to beat him. But the Falcons kept pressing and were relentless in creating their chances. A fantastic first half, but the Eagles showed what they’re made of and quickly threatened with a couple of quick chances at the end of the half.

A regroup at half-time, a couple of changes in position and the Falcons knew what they had to do - do the basics right and more chances will come.

The Falcons had to take it up a level as the Eagles started the second half on the front foot. A more end to end game so a number of chances at both ends. The Eagles post and crossbar taking a battering on top of another half of amazing goalkeeping from Zac for the Eagles but the Falcons kept going right to the final whistle to end the game on a high.

Excellent Falcons goals today from Archie ⚽️⚽️⚽️, Lucas ⚽️ and Angus ⚽️.

Special mention to todays captain, Oscar. A quiet first half until the last few minutes where Oscar came into the game with some excellent saves. He made some more great saves in the second half where his distribution was excellent today and his communication with his team mates continues to get better.

But today’s player of the match went to Lucas. This was one of his best performances in the famous yellow and black kit. As striker in the first half, his pressing was excellent, blocking so many crucial passes, was fantastic in carrying the ball forward up the pitch and was rewarded with an excellent goal. In the second half he showed he is a real team player by putting his hand up to go in defence and was an absolute rock. Some amazing tackles, blocks and even carried the ball forward in one attack and hit the post. Lucas was amazing today!

Huge well done to the Eagles for playing their part in a brilliant game of football today. They showed amazing determination from start to finish.

Well done Falcons, you were all amazing today - super proud of you all. Roll on next week!
