New Mills were up against High Lane Gazelles today for a lunchtime kick-off at Stockport Sports Village.
The boys started with James in goal, Rhys and Charlie T in defence, Stanley, Charlie J and Jackson in midfield, with Dylan leading the line as striker.
The opening 10 minutes were a little scrappy, with nerves showing on both sides as each team struggled to find that final touch.
Stanley reacted quickly at the back post from a corner and firing home a shot that proved too powerful for the Gazelles keeper to deal with.
That goal helped settle the boys, and they began to grow into the game. Stanley grabbed his second just before the break, finishing well after a lovely ball in from Rhys.
The second half saw the Gazelles come out with more intent, putting New Mills under pressure. The boys responded brilliantly, staying composed, soaking up the pressure, and continuing to play their football.
Charlie J capped off a hardworking performance with a well-deserved goal, rewarding his effort and persistence.
The final 10 minutes were tough, and the boys had to dig deep, showing excellent game management and determination.
Another fantastic performance from the whole team, full of grit, effort, and resilience throughout.
Player of the Match: Charlie J – battled tirelessly all game, continues to improve after returning from injury, and capped it off with a goal.
