NEW MILLS JUNIORS FC

The second week of our season and second cup game for the Vipers, coming up against a tough Buxton team, we knew they would have to play well. With almost full team, JJ still getting back to full fitness but again came to cheer his teammates on; we welcomed Lily back for her first game of the season and Freddie for his Vipers debut. First league game of the season for the girls was a local derby away at Hayfield. The game started as an even contest with Millie being good off her line to stop a couple of Hayfield attacks. As the game settled down the Millers started to dominate and it wasn’t long before they took the lead; Daisy scoring from a close range before grabbing her second 5 minutes later. What a debut ! The first game of the season brought a new challenge for the girls as they took on the new 9-a-side format, with 30-minute halves, nine players on the team, so no substitutes. It was always going to be a test of fitness and determination, but the girls stepped up brilliantly and gave everything from the first whistle to the last.
