Match Report - 16th October 2022 - NMJFC U8 Wasps v NMJFC U8 Hornets

Derby day again?!  Yes - such is the passion for U8’s football in New Mills that we have three teams entered into the league this year!  This week the Wasps were facing the Hornets.

It was a glorious sunny morning and first half goalkeeper Harry made some great saves with the low autumn sun shining in his eyes. 👏

Perhaps it was the occasion, but the Wasps struggled to get their trademark passing game flowing.  As one player commented as they came off for a rest, “It’s exciting because we’re playing against my friends!” 🙂

Eventually Brooke’s never-ending skilful play in midfield was rewarded as she broke free and finished brilliantly ⚽!

It could have been more in the second half with Sam breaking from midfield and Brooke, Harry and Jacob all firing shots just outside the woodwork.

At the other end second half goalkeeper Frankie C caused loud applause from the supporters as he blocked and held onto a powerful low shot. 👏

Captain for the day James almost got onto the scoresheet right at the end of the game - Dylan fizzed a fabulous cross right across the box and James was just unable to reach it at the far post!

Every single player worked tirelessly throughout and they were all smiling as the team gathered after the game for the NMJFC Player of the Match award.  The trophy was received by James 🏆 for listening throughout and leading by example, never giving up on anything right until the final whistle.

Special mention for Dylan, who had been a doubt for the game but raised spirits when he arrived.  No-one wants to miss a Wasps’ game! 🙂

It was impressive to see the whole team show such great character - well done Wasps!
