Another week another game and this time at the great pitch at Didsbury High School. The Vipers would be up against new opponents having played the other Inter Cheadle team a few weeks back. A full squad again this week with Leo as our captain to make those important decisions in the game. As always, it’s not about who starts but the whole team who get the game time to make the difference.
The game started and the Vipers got on the front foot straight away, Logan and Elliott further forward were causing Inter Cheadle a lot of issues with Jude and Alistair doing brilliant to support attacks on either flank.
Some great passing moves followed with both Logan (2) and Elliott getting goals and Jude getting on the scoresheet as well by reacting to a great cross. Inter Cheadle though were battling hard throughout the first half and Leo had to be strong at the back to limit chances. Kingsley was in impressive form between the sticks, with some super saves and handling. Alistair was showing he was back to his industrious best, supporting Leo at the back and charging forward to help attacks as well. Kit, Lily and Thomas would also make a difference to the game with some great attacking moves but also keen defending, to try and keep goals at a premium.
By half time, both sides had worked hard and needed a breather. Alistair would take the gloves for the second half with Kingsley out of net to show his creative spark. If the first half was a quick half – the second half was relentless from both sides. If you had paid money to watch the game you would have been treated to a feast of football.
Inter Cheadle came out firing and were taking the game by the scruff of the neck. The Vipers however, would slither past them with more flowing football. The passing from front to back is making little improvements every week. Elliott profited from that this half with a couple of tidy finishes from superb flowing moves. The right side was marshalled well by Kit and Logan with Kit also taking a stint at centre back. Although not his favourite position, he reads the game well and tackles hard to win the ball. Jude and Elliott showcased their skills on the left, both full of running, tackling hard and doing their best to create chances for the team. Thomas and Lily were working well in the middle of the park alongside Kingsley and Leo.
By the end of the game, both sides came off the field feeling like a true football contest had taken place. If you had the pleasure of watching, the pleasure was all yours but the kids all had a blast too. That’s what football is all about, enjoying playing with some good friends and enjoying a great game. Well done Vipers.
