Match report, 18-Sep-2022  New Mills Bees U8 vs Hayfield U8

It was great to be back playing football on a Sunday morning, the kids turned up ready to go and it was great to see them all.

This was our first match as New Mills Bees and also first competitive match at Glossopdale for Alexander.  The players started by observing a minute's silence for the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.  After a brief team talk, they were straight into play.

Hayfield only had 5 in their squad today so didn't even have any substitutions available.  They had however brought a very competitive team full of experience from a year of U7's football.  This however didn't deter the Bee's.  Lots of good passing up the field gave us a good start with lots of chances.  Charlie made some great football, showing his ability well.

Hayfield applied plenty of pressure , Toby showed his experience in goal quickly pouncing and picking up anything that came near the goal.  Joshua and Leo also showed their strength defending making lots of good tackles and clearances.  However Hayfield kept on the pressure at the end of the first half.

In the second half Hayfield came out even stronger and kept the pressure on the Bees.  Leo tried a stint up front and showed how his speed can be a real benefit to get ahead of the defence and was very unlucky not to convert a couple of opportunities into goals for the Bees. Stanley and Seren did great in midfield tackling and constantly causing problems for Hayfield.  Alexander was in his first competitive match but didn't hold back from chasing down the Hayfield players when they got the ball.  Charlie was very close to scoring after fending off a few hard tackles but just couldn't quite convert the opportunities into a goal.

It was a difficult first match against Hayfield however everyone played brilliantly and it will be great to see how they develop through the season.  The "NMJFC Player of the Match" went to Joshua this week for his continued determination to keep going despite the number of knocks he received and of course his usual persistence as a defender.

Well done Bees!
