Match Report - 27/11/22 - NMJFC U8 Wasps v Buxton Young Bucks U8 Whites

Match Report - 27th November 2022 - NMJFC U8 Wasps v Buxton Young Bucks U8 Whites

NMJFC U8 Wasps match against Buxton Young Bucks U8 Whites was an exemplar of Grassroots football at its best!  The game was played in great spirit by both sides, with good temperament, fairness, abundant skill, spectacular goalkeeping, mazey dribbling, slick passing, incredible intensity throughout …and every goal scored by both teams was a cracker!

Initially Wasps’ supporters were wondering if they would get to see Brooke terrorise another midfield due to a last minute fitness scare.  Josh and Leo, who had just played for the Bees, very kindly offered to step in as substitutes if necessary – with Leo especially excited at the prospect of potentially winning two Player of the Match trophies in one morning!  🤔 🏆 🏆 ? Thanks both. 👍 👍

But Brooke did arrive for kick-off …and promptly set about winning the ball, taking it through the opposing team, and being applauded by the supporters! 👏

The Wasps moved the ball up-field to James in a promising position, but it arrived to him awkwardly and he was being closed down - he sorted his feet out and produced a brilliant finish across the goalkeeper - great goal James ⚽!

Dylan was unlucky not to join on the scoresheet with a missile of a free kick - it looked a guaranteed goal, and still no-one knows how the opposition goalkeeper managed to keep it out! 👏

First half goalkeeper Jacob tipped a powerful shot onto the crossbar - but delight quickly turned to dread as the rebound fell perfectly to an advancing forward who struck the ball sweetly on target …. only for Jacob to be back into position and make the double save!!!!! 👏

Sam found yet another gear this week.  He seemed to win more tackles than ever before, and ran faster and further with the ball than ever before!  If the coaches spotted a gap in the Wasps’ shape, Sam was already moving to fill it  - no need for any advice from the side-lines thanks to his brilliant reading of the game. 👏

Out of goal for the second half Jacob received the ball out wide, facing away from goal, no pass available, and under immediate pressure - there looked nothing on ….unless you have the ability to swivel around the opponent on your standing foot, take the ball with you, and smash a perfect finish past the goalkeeper 😮 - fabulous goal Jacob ⚽!

The Wasps were building momentum. A rocket of a shot was unleashed from midfield and even a touch from the goalkeeper couldn’t stop it bursting high into the roof of the net – spectacular goal Brooke ⚽!

Frankie C had taken over as goalkeeper and made a number of camera-worthy acrobatic saves throughout the second half ensuring that the game remained tense right to the end! 👏

Captain for the day James led by example, constantly communicating with his teammates, pressuring the opposition, and covering every blade of grass …over and over again!  He received the NMJFC Player of the Match trophy 🏆 for his absolutely non-stop endeavour throughout.

The players from both teams joined together with the coaches and referee in the centre to thank each other for the part that everyone had played in a brilliant encounter.  The Wasps were tired and happy, with just enough energy left to gather for a post-match souvenir photo. 🙂

Well done Wasps!
