Match Report - 9th October 2022 - NMJFC U8 Bees v NMJFC U8 Wasps
The morning started with everyone wondering how the Wasps would find their first ever derby day, playing against our training friends the Bees!
As an ‘away’ fixture, the Wasps donned red bibs and prepared to take kick-off. Immediately no-one dare blink - within seconds goals were flying in at both ends, including a quick brace for Harry ⚽⚽!
Interspersed with the threat from the Bees, the Wasps were playing their typical team game for each other, and Jacob ⚽ was soon rewarded with his first ever goal for the Wasps!
The dedication and teamwork of the Wasps was entertaining to watch again. Sam followed up winning ‘Player of the Week’ in training with probably his best performance for the Wasps, repeatedly winning the ball and then dribbling up field through the opposition. 👏 Jacob drew several players to himself in possession, and then deliberately made a perfectly placed back-heeled pass to set up an attack! 👏
The remainder of the first half saw the teams cancel each other out, and everyone was relieved to get to half time for a well earned break!
When play resumed there was a goal for captain for the day Dylan ⚽! And then a first goal of the season for James ⚽!
With the game wearing on and the Bees proving resolute in defence, a powerful looping shot was unleashed from the Wasps’ midfield. The Bees’ goalkeeper initially made a spectacular save - but the pace and spin were just too much and the ball found the back of the net. Well done Brooke ⚽!
A special mention is required for all four goalkeepers on the day - including Frankie C and Harry for the Wasps - who all exerted themselves brilliantly for both teams to keep the scores down. 👏 👏 👏 👏
Frankie C added to his goalkeeping endeavours with an extremely determined second half performance in defence, receiving the Wasp’s NMJFC Player of the Match trophy 🏆!
Great dedication was shown by both teams. The Bees were short of a few players and worked extremely hard matching the Wasps right until the final whistle - well done Bees and Wasps! See you at training!
