A cold and windy one this morning but no chance for the Scorpions for cooling down. They had been put through the wringer in training mid-week, and they were told that this match wasn’t going to be any different.
They were expected to run their socks off, keep possession and battle…. and they gave exactly what was asked of them. We knew we were up against a tough competitor, and we couldn’t take our foot off the gas.
Rocco T started us off with fire letting everyone know he was here, and he wanted it ⚽️ boom When you ask to come off the pitch because you can’t breathe you know you have put the work it. He finished the game as strong as he started and did his team proud 👊🏻 scored another goal which pinged in off the post through sheer determination ⚽️
Our wingers switched sides for this game and they both looked very comfortable.
Dylan has come on leaps and bounds this season and he’s showing that more and more. He’s running up and down that whole wing defending as great as his attacking. Not allowing anyone to bully him off the ball.
Captain Leo proving that he isn’t just about speed although that’s what we asked from him today. Taking plenty more shots this game testing the GK at any opportunity possible. He got his reward with a great cross from Ted .. Leo smashed it home ⚽️
Our defence holding strong and having two besties at the back always helps.
Callum presses well. He showed some lovely footwork today and made some excellent saving tackles. Mr Composure doing his job 👍🏻
Will covers like a duvet. He lets Callum press forward and protects all the space behind. He makes sure that the ball is back up the other end of the pitch. He gets the team out of so many sticky situations.
The engine was back and firing on all cylinders today. Teds feet have the potential of touching every blade of fake grass on the pitch in one game. He is strong, he is fast and he doesn’t give up. Smashing the ball over and over again power shots at the keeper, off the woodwork and a beauty in the back of the net… an absolute worldie… reminiscent of Marco Van Basten in the 88 Euros … such a tight angle but Ted buried it ⚽️
Our game changers!!
Dayvid solid in defence threw his body on the line in a game changing tackle. He had 2 minutes on the pitch in the first half but a very important 2 mins, he caught a bad stamp on his foot ….. After recovering from it Dayvid came back on the pitch in the 2nd half to solidify his defence.. absolutely solid.
Alfie played a position filler today. Covering the upfront and winger positions. The fresh legs were needed and he didn’t let the team down while he was on the pitch.
PoTM goes to our amazing Goal Keeper today. Pouncing from one post to the other, Making a number of finger tip saves and keeping his team in this game. Kept his head clear and did everything he could to protect the team.
Buxton were an incredible team today, very tough competition and a great game for anyone watching.
