Match report New Mills Bees under 8's Vs Hayfield under 8's - 19/02/23
The Bees had the late kick off today and with the games being switched around as it's half term, we were down to the bare bones. Joshua and Seren were unavailable and a late fitness test saw Toby feeling unwell.
Our opponents Hayfield were in exactly the same boat, 2 on holiday and one who wasn't well enough to play.
At least the Bees had the luxury of being able to draft in Frankie H on a short term loan. Also a huge thanks to Coach Joe for standing in for coach Matt (who was also away)
It was Silent Support weekend, however it was a little different this time as the coaches were allowed to give some pointers and guidance to the players.
The Bees started brightly with Stanley 'safe hands' in goal, Rocco and Alexander in defence, Leo and Charlie upfront.
Right from the kick off the Bees were up for a good game. Stanley has really got to grips with being a goalkeeper and is improving massively each week. It was a pleasure to see him keeping the Hayfield attack at bay time after time...Wonderful play Stan the man.
The Bees pressed hard and fast and were soon on the scoresheet courtesy of Leo. Some great passing and remembering our training sessions of 'quick set pieces and quick play' saw the Bees grab more goals through Leo and Charlie.
Rocco and Alexander were switched on at the back with some great tracking back and tackling. It was clear Alexander really enjoyed getting stuck in, Rocco is another player who is gaining momentum and hugely improving week after week...
When called upon, Frankie H did a fantastic job, no matter the position he was asked to play.
The second half saw our usual switch with Alexander going in goal and Stanley ready to play outfield. It's a pleasure to see the Bees looking to pass to one another and looking for a forward pass and to clear the ball from dangerous areas. Leo and Charlie got on the scoresheet a few more times throughout an entertaining half of football. Rocco had a half chance, as did Stanley ... it was a great game to see. Alexander made some great saves.
Every single Bee played fantastically today. As coaches it's nice to see things fall into place with coaching and forward passes / playing someone 'in' when they're in a better position to score. Charlie did that today... something clicked and it was fantastic team play.. which is what it's all about.
The player of the match was Charlie for his all round team play, scoring goals and setting up his teammates in the final third to help the team do well.
