Match Report New Mills Bees v Buxton Juniors Athletic U9’s - 17/03/23

We had almost a full squad today, only Callum was missing.  Happy St Patrick’s day ☘️  to one and all 🍀

We’re now heading to the business end of the season with this, the second to last game……. Only one more league game left…………. and it’s a biggie ⚽️ then the cup final!

We lined up with Stanley 🤲🏻 in goal, Will and David at the back, Millie, Brooke and Leo across the middle with Charlie up front (Rocco poised …..)

Captain Leo won the kick off honours and we were underway. We knew this Buxton team would be strong competitors but we were upto the task.

We fought fiercely in the first half. Buxton had a break forward and looked a sure thing to score…….. but our man Stanley made a fantastically brave save and held on tightly to the ball….. he’s not called safe hands for nothing!

It was a really even half, Leo and Millie were having great success on each side and our ‘engine room’ Brooke was constantly involved.

Will and David were busy at the back, with Will very tidy in closing down attacks and looking for a pass down the line. David is more and more understanding positional play and where he needs to be 👍🏻

Rocco came on and was straight away involved, he’s a battler and will keep going 👊🏻

Everyone was positive at half time and knew their roles, so we kicked off and picked up where we left off.  Again, Millie and Leo were tirelessly running the wings, pushing forward and tracking back helping out the defence, both of them covered some ground today.

The Bees broke with Millie, who passed forward to Charlie who took it on and had a good shot, but the Buxton keeper was equal to it.

Leo made a good run and shot, but again the Buxton keeper was upto the task.

Another Buxton break forward but Stanley came to the rescue…. A great, save, an important save. Stan the Man covered the ball, but took a knock to his knee and needed a minute or two to recover (but was soon back on form)

This was a well fought game, at the end, both sets of coaches said it was a very good game.

Our player of the match was Safe Hands Stanley !! He made some really brave saves today. Well done to all Bees 🐝
