Match Report New Mills Bees vs Whaley Bridge Tigers U9 - 10/03/24

A grey, wet day at Glossopdale saw a depleted Bees go up against a team who we’ve played many times before, Whaley Bridge Tigers.

Coach Rick (along with Brooke and Millie) were on Stockport County duties, so coach Jordan was the Malcolm Alison to my Joe Mercer.

We lined up with Stanley in goal, Rocco and Frankie at the back, Leo, Callum and Will across the middle and Charlie the lone ranger upfront.

Callum was today’s captain and won the honours for kick off.  The Bees started cautiously and took time to get going, with Callum and Will playing in unfamiliar positions. Whaley put us under pressure early on and everyone had to be on their toes.

Leo was having some success on the right with some of his trademark bombing runs and through balls but nothing was quite connecting.  Will was equally having success on the left with some really tidy play and passing.

Stanley was busy between the sticks, Rocco and Frankie were sweeping up the loose balls.

Leo was sending corners across the box, but nobody could put their foot through it.

At half time we re-grouped, talked about what we did well and what we could improve on. The second half kicked off and the Bees were very much a different team.

The game was played mostly on the half way line or in the opposition half. Will was making some great runs, Callum was growing into the centre midfield role and winning tackle after tackle.  Rocco and Frankie were busy and getting stuck in. Rocco really is our solid defender 👊🏻  Leo was a constant thorn in the side of the Whaley defence.

After some great work by Will and tenacious play by Callum, the ball broke to Charlie who knocked it home ⚽️

There was constant pressure from the Bees with Leo again making some fantastic runs, Will had a chance to score… that goal is definitely coming 👍🏻, Callum was always involved, Charlie was always looking to get on the end of a pass and also dropping back into midfield to win the ball.

This was a great game of football to watch.

Our player of the match today was Will. Played out on the left wing and did a magnificent job, some great runs, really involved and looking to play to his teammates 👍🏻

The ref was also really good, great decisions and giving encouragement to both sides 👏🏻

(Also my apologies to our referee ….. I honestly know your name is Declan 🤦🏻‍♂️)

⚽️🖤💛⚽️
