Match Report New Mills Juniors U7s vs Buxton YB Whites U7s 25th January 2025

Another week and another game for our mini-millers to showcase their love of the beautiful game.  This week we had Kingsley back but unfortunately Alistair was ill and unable to play.

This week Kingsley would take his usual spot in goal as well as taking the captain’s armband with Logan at centre back, Elliott on the right, Thomas left with Jude and Lily playing through the middle.  Leo and Kit would be our subs today ready to join the action and make a difference for the team.  We hadn’t played this Buxton team but the team was ready to have fun and work hard for each other.

The game kicked off and immediately the Millers set about Buxton putting them under pressure and trying to get their shots away.  Elliott was working hard on the right, trying to dribble forward but also did his best to get back and support Logan in defence.  Logan was building attacks but also making sure Buxton didn’t have clear sights of Kingsley’s goal.

When Buxton did get their shots away, Kingsley was more than up to the task showing how well he is developing in goal.  Thomas kept his momentum from last week, working hard down the left, winning tackles, linking play and very keen to support attacks.  Unfortunately, he didn't take as many shots away like last week as Buxton were very keen in the tackle, but this did little to discourage his spirit.  No matter how well Buxton defended though, it didn’t discourage our mini-millers, less so than Lily who was a force to be reckoned with in the middle.  Her and Jude kept the pressure high up the field making sure Buxton struggled to play through them with ease.  The whole team was trying to get their shots away but Buxton stood strong.

Kit and Leo entered the fray with Kit onto the right and Leo into defence.  Leo was his calm self, reading the game well and clearing danger to help New Mills build attacks.  Kit became the driving force down the right, but time and again did his best to support Leo when Buxton tried to counterattack.  Further forward, Elliott and Logan were linking up well as the attacking force, combining for a goal each.  After half time, the game became a very tight and cagey affair with neither side wanting to give an inch.  The work rate and teamwork did not reduce with superb effort from front to back.  Both sides defended well with attacks frequent but chances at a premium.  Both teams battled hard with both sides enjoying the contest of two evenly matched sides.

By the end of the game the whole team had shown their bravery and spirit to go toe to toe with tough opposition, enjoying the game and showcasing their abilities with and without the ball.  Every player stood up to be counted today, with each showing what a great team-player they are.

Awesome game again U7s….
