Match Report New Mills Scorpions U11 vs Whaley Bridge Reds U11 -14/09/25

Another new venue….. and what a pitch … loads of open space to play some great passing football … and a great referee who clearly told the kids why the whistle was blown and what the reason was 👍🏻

We lined up with all 10 players ready to build on last weeks good performance.  Similar to last week, a familiar opponent in Whaley Bridge (and our good friend Fenn in goal) so we knew we had to be up for it.

The Scorpions were pressing straight from the kick off…. As it’s 9v9 we’re playing higher up the pitch which gives plenty of scope for forward passes.  Our defenders, David, Rocco K, Will and Callum are really getting this and feeding Leo and Dylan on the wings … and Ted and Alfie through the middle.  It’s a pleasure to watch some of the interplay.

Scorpions break through and Ted bangs home his first ⚽️.. this lit the touch paper …. Next up was Leo with a long range belter ⚽️ the defence still had a lot to do to contain the Whaley attackers who were a handful all morning.   

Ted had several more chances .. each agonisingly wide. Alfie was constantly getting in there and mixing it up.. a constant thorn in the Whaley defenders side. Rocco T’s work rate was phenomenal… he chased everything down and closed their defenders off brilliantly. 

Rocco k was also getting involved and shutting down attacks whether playing as a defender or a CDM .. great performance ! Will and Callum were solid … fought for every ball and made some great clearances. David was superb at following the attacker and shepherding the ball out, great play 👍🏻

Ted was fouled just outside the box …. Up steps Leo ….. ⚽️ great free kick … shortly after, another free kick … Dylan whacks the post (superb effort) … last minutes of the first half … Alfie has a crack that just goes wide.

Second half - we picked up where we left off. Dylan had been on fire in the first half … and after another jinking run, switched it to Leo who smashed home his third ⚽️ Dylan’s play today was outstanding .. great passing, received the ball and knew exactly what to do with it.

The Scorpions were pushing high up the field and making some great passes, Rocco K was winning tackles, Ted was always on the mix. Will, Callum and David were sweeping up everything that came to them. Alfie was constantly getting in space and was unlucky not to score.

All the while at the other end…. Frankie the Cat was ready for anything that came his way. Some amazing goal kicks helped kick start attack after attack …. He’s our brick wall 🩵 he made some fantastic saves.

Leo received the ball and took on a Whaley defender, passed through to Ted who slammed home his second ⚽️  Rocco T was always up there making space and assisting his fellow attackers, amazing play.  Nearing the end, Dylan was again tricking his way down the right wing, played a delightful ball for Ted to score his third ⚽️

This was a good Scorpions performance 🦂 every player gave their all … and as coaches that’s all we ask for.

PoTM could’ve been any of them (we say this every week) but today Leo with his goals, assists and all round play edged it.
