Match report New Mills Scorpions vs Hillgate U11 - 11/01/2026

A repeat of the last fixture before the festive break saw us up against Hillgate.  We’ve really enjoyed playing this team previously and knew we would be in for a great game.

Straight away Frankie C was called into action and made a fantastic point blank save to deny the Hillgate attacker.  Throughout the first half there was some great passing and fantastic work from Will playing out on the right wing.

Rocco T saw a shot saved, quickly followed up another great save from Oliver B.  Rocco T got his reward with a neat finish (left foot !) just before half time.

The Scorpions started the second half and were under the cosh for a while and struggled to keep hold of the ball and play our usual game. Leo had a few shots with no reward, Rocco T hit the post… was it our day ? 

Cometh the man, cometh the hour…… up steps Frankie H…. he grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and hit a great long range shot which flew over the Hillgate keeper.  This sparked the Scorpions back to life and settled them down.  In almost a carbon copy of his first… Frankie H hit another worldie into the back of the net.  The Scorpions weren’t quite finished yet and with nearly the last kick of the game, Callum playing high up the pitch curled a right foot shot which agonisingly hit the post.

David, Alfie, Rocco K, Will, Oliver, Frankie H, Frankie C, Leo, Callum, Finley & Rocco T all pulled together and their resilience was outstanding to see.

Player of the Match was most definitely Frankie H who turned the game around.
