A wet and cold day at Glossopdale saw a depleted black team go up against a team who we’ve played many times before, Whaley Bridge.
We decided to give a few players different roles and positions today to keep the development and versality within the squad.
Our starting line up consisted of our reliable keeper James, back 2 of Oliver and Shea.
Liam or leader as we like to call him played further forward today in a cdm role.
Harley on the left Bobby on the right and our goal machine Archie up top.
Ella was gladly welcomed back into the squad after Sickness the previous week, unfortunately it was Kian and Joes turn this week to be absent, get well soon boys.
The games against Whaley in the past have always proved to be somewhat entertaining and always treated the spectators to some great moments and goals and today was no different. For those mothers lucky enough to watch today I am sure they would of been very proud today.
The game started at blistering pace and before we knew it, our man in form, James, was called upon.
Early stages of the game Liam took a sore one to the ankle meaning Ella sprang into action. Ella is a joy to coach and this is her final season with the blacks so every game left is somewhat emotional to see, and this chapter of her journey is drawing to a close, Ella always gives 100% for the team and never let's us down.
Oliver and Shea formed a solid partnership at the back today and ensured Whaley had to work very hard.
Liam being the rock we have seen so much this season ran his socks off and was back in the thick of it within no time, well done Liam.
New Mills Blacks today showed true fight, grit and determination.
Bobby and harley were a constant threat down the flanks creating chance after chance.
Oliver and Archie were running tiredlessly.
The Whaley keeper was quite incredible today and few of the lads knew him from his High Lane team so they knew they had to be on point to get past him today.
With half time looming harley after some excellent dribbling found himself in front of goal at close range, there was no way he was missing this opportunity and the moment was inevitable. Excellent goal Harley.
Half time myself and Mike couldn't really say too much as the team were doing everything we asked for and we were really were pleased with everything we have worked on in training.
A few changes were made with Archie switching to the left and Harley up top.
The 2nd half started similar to 1st with the wet conditions making it difficult for both teams, the ball seemed to be constantly in the opposition half and you would have expected heads to drop, but not this team. Harley and Archie absolutely peppered the Whaley goal, hitting the post and on target numerous times ensuring the Whaley keeper was in prime position for their man of the match.
Liam being determined to show what he can do in a different position, managed to sprint the full length of the pitch to even keep up with Harley and that takes some doing!! Harley assisted from the right for a delightful tap in , excellent goal Liam.
These guys are really starting to gel and understand one another. The passing is improving each week, we move onto the New Mills derby which is always a nice game to see the full group of u10s together.
Man of the match was difficult today with everyone playing so well so we opted for 2, one being the ever improving Bobby!(well done Bobs) and the other being our rock/leader Liam.(well done liam)
