Match report New Mills U8 Bees vs Buxton Young Bucks U8 Blues - 02/04/23
It was the last game of the season and everyone of the Bees was excited to be there. We started with warm up shots on goal and the kids were fired up for their game against Buxton.
The match started with Charlie and Leo making a run up the pitch together. Leo used his speed to get into space down the right wing. Charlie fed the ball to him and Leo crossed it back into Charlie who knocked it into the back of the net within minutes of starting the game. It was great to see the passing and the pair working so well together, something they're really worked so well on this year.
Stanley and Joshua were working brilliantly together in defence, making tackles when Buxton advanced forward and passing it up the pitch. The formation of two at the back has given them a bit of independence to judge which of them pushes forward and which stays back. All of the team have understood this brilliantly and have come on so well.
Seren and Toby came on during the first half. Seren worked brilliantly in defence with Rocco and Toby making great tackles in midfield and good runs up the pitch.
A great save at one point from Alexander denied Buxton a goal, they followed up and were then denied again by the woodwork. This game was really turning into a bit of a thriller. Alexander also showed how he has gained more confidence in dealing with getting the ball out of goal looking for that quick pass out when he's picked the ball up.
After a great first half in defence Rocco went up front in the second half. The team have been working on putting on pressure from the opposition team's goal kick and Rocco showed how much he's learnt from this. Showing his persistence and pressing the defence from the goal kick Rocco finds the back of the net!
Stanley went in goal for the second half and did a great job keeping some difficult shots out. Stanley has also really worked on making sure he picks up the ball when it comes into his area and passes or kicks it out quickly. The second half contained so much in this fast paced game. Great tackles, passing and attempts on goal from the whole team. The Bees have come on so well and really looked happy to be out there playing this week.
In the last minute of the game Buxton scored. Not to be out done, Leo received the ball from Charlie on the kick off and made a run down the line and cut in towards goal. Leo's speed has always been one of his strengths however his ability to dribble past players has come on so well that he ran the whole pitch and put it into the back of the net in the last kick of the game. It was all these joint efforts that earnt Leo and Charlie a joint player of the match award!
We don't mention the scores in match reports because it's about the kids enjoying football. The good news is that no one was really sure what the score was by the end (I certainly wasn't). Loads of great goals were scored by both teams and every child looked really happy, shaking hands with all their opponents and coaches. A really great game to end the season.
A great chance at the end with all the teams playing at the same time to get a photo of the whole under 8 squad and the pleasure of having Harry Budd on the sidelines as well!
