Match report New Mills U8 Bees vs Buxton Young Bucks U8 Blues
It was a grey, drizzly and cold Sunday morning over in Glossopdale this week. Was this going to put the kids off playing football? It was possibly putting the coaches and parents off but the kids were as keen as usual. The kids were great warming up this week and after a few sprints of the pitch and a great bit of passing practice they were ready to go.
With a full team selection this week we had our pick of goalkeepers. Alexander put his hand up for the first half. Charlie volunteered to try out defence this week after lots of practice so joined Joshua at the back while Rocco joined Leo up front. From the kickoff the Bees were full of energy with lots of great runs up the pitch from Joshua and Charlie feeding the ball to Rocco and Leo. It was great end to end football with both Charlie and Joshua making great clearances when the ball came down the Bee's end. Alexander was great in goal again this week, really showing how he's listened in training and made some great saves and picked up the ball when needed. One of the areas the Bee's have really improved is their goal kicks, they take these goal kicks so confidently now passing out to the defence and working the ball up the pitch. So great to see!
Rocco and Leo showed their strength up front both finding the back of the net after some great runs and persistence getting past the Buxton defence.
Stanley and Toby both came on the pitch playing up front. Toby put his speed to good use and did lots of chasing down any attackers. Stanley put in some great tackles and passes up the field to put the Bee's in a great position.
Stanley went in goal for the second half and quickly showed us why he is earning his nickname "safe hands". As well as making lots of great clearances he made some great saves from some very strong shots from the Buxton team.
Alexander showed us in the second half how he's getting more confident playing out in the field. This week he asked to be in defence and really worked well making some great tackles and clearances.
Seren helped out in defence in the second half and made some great interceptions and tackles.
Charlie went up front in the second half and used his persistence to get two goals past the Buxton keeper. A great run and cross from Leo set Joshua up for a shot from the edge of the box and he managed to hit the back of the net.
Overall this was another great match with all the players putting in loads of effort. Joshua claimed player of the week this week for his persistence in tackling, running up the pitch and making great passes.
Well done Bee's - another great week at Glossopdale.
