A perfect Sunday for football at Glossopdale this afternoon. The Bees had a full team of 9 for the first time in a while.
We lined up with Stanley in goal, Will and Callum playing in front of Stan. Millie, Brooke and Leo across the middle and Charlie as the main striker. Rocco and David would make appearances during the half.
Brooke was captain today and showed her leadership qualities throughout the game. The first half kicked off and it was obvious the Bees were up for it.
An early attack with some fine work from Callum and Brooke, saw Millie get some space and let fly with a superb shot, heading for the top corner but the Chinley keeper got a hand to it and tipped it round and out for a corner.
The Bees were then under the cosh for a while and a fair amount of play was in our half. Will and Callum were immense at the back. As each game passes, Cal is becoming more and more confident. It’s great to see someone so calm on the ball 👍🏻
Leo was making some great runs and slotting passes through to Brooke and Charlie, but we couldn’t break through. Charlie was battling constantly with Chinley’s main playmaker and he soon realised he wasn’t going to be pushed around and really got stuck in 👍🏻 that’s our CW7 !
Quick change and Rocco came on for Will and David came on for Leo. The Bees were still looking to unlock the Chinley defence with some more great runs from Millie and Brooke. David was always looking to get involved… if a tackle needs making …. He’ll have a go 👍🏻
After a Chinley player took a ball to the head, there was a bit of confusion and the Bees stopped.. a Chinley player carried on and took a shot, which Stanley swatted like a fly 👊🏻 (top reactions)
Half time and both coaches were happy with how we were playing. We were passing and trying to win it back when we’d lost possession, we all said we need to make sure we keep playing as a team.
Second half and Leo came back on for David and Rocco came back on for Callum.
We kicked off and it was such an evenly matched game, both teams attackers, defenders and goalies were all in the mix and it was a really good game to watch. Leo had a great storming run and was fouled….. another Bees attack saw us earn a free kick right on the edge of the box, but Chinley stood strong. The Bees had corner after corner but couldn’t get a decent connection on the ball.
Leo, after a good run fell awkwardly, so Cal came on playing in a not so familiar position on the right wing. Again, Callum was readily getting involved and playing some great football and always looking for a pass to a teammate 👍🏻
After some solid work at the back from Will, who slotted a great ball through to Millie…. Who then steamed down the left and knocked it across for Charlie…..
Charlie controlled it and let rip with a cracker which nestled in the bottom right hand corner⚽️ just deserts for #CW7
At the final whistle, both teams coaches agreed it was a really competitive game of football. The Bees should be pleased with how they play… it’s great football to watch.
Our player of the match today was Callum. He was absolutely solid at the back with his pal Will. When asked to play further upfield, the phrase ‘like a duck to water’ springs to mind … calmness, positivity and a willingness to get stuck in are all fantastic traits 👍🏻
