Today the U10s were up against Wythenshawe Pumas for an afternoon kick-off at Stockport Sports Village.
We started with James in goal, Pavak and Rhys in defence, Teddy, Stanley and Jackson in midfield, and Alfie leading the line up front.
Injuries meant we had no substitutes, which caused early problems. After no more than 10 minutes Teddy picked up a stitch and needed to drop back into defence, with Rhys stepping into midfield. Rhys did a great job creating play from the middle while Teddy sat deep and kept things organised at the back.
The boys were playing some good football but were unfortunate to concede twice from set pieces, both just out of reach of James’ safe hands. Despite this setback, the heads stayed up. Jackson battled hard down the right wing, and Alfie was unlucky not to score when a Pumas defender cleared his effort off the line.
A goal just before half-time showed the boys were very much in the game despite going in behind.
After a quick regroup at half-time, the lads came out much hungrier in the second half. Stanley took control on the left, scoring two quick goals despite their goalkeeper putting in an outstanding performance. This really stunned the Pumas and belief started to grow, with every player working hard, closing down threats and pushing attacks forward.
Stanley then won and converted a penalty before finishing the game off with a clinical free-kick. Late pressure from the Pumas was dealt with superbly by Pavak and Teddy, who were determined not to let anything past them.
A superb team performance all round. The boys showed great composure when behind and never gave up.
Player of the Match went to Stanley, who was outstanding—especially in the second half. An incredible work rate, five goals, and a performance on another level.
