The U10s were up against Whaley Bridge Reds at Stockport Sports Village, and it was great to welcome Dylan back to the squad after a few weeks out injured.
New Mills started with another experimental setup at the back, with Teddy and Rhys in defence, Stanley, Charlie J and Jackson in midfield, and Dylan leading the line as striker.
The boys began brightly, building confidently from the back and moving the ball well. In what was a very tight and competitive first half, it was Dylan who opened the scoring to give New Mills a deserved lead.
The hard work continued into the second half, and a dominant 10-minute spell saw New Mills really turn the screw. Stanley was on fire, scoring four goals, with Charlie J adding another before Dylan rounded things off with his second of the game.
It certainly wasn’t all one-way traffic, and the defence had to work extremely hard at times to keep things tight at the other end of the pitch.
Player of the Match was awarded to goalkeeper James, who simply wasn’t letting anything past him today, pulling off a series of outstanding saves.
