We started today’s match with Ebony confidently positioned in goal, ready to guard the net.
In defence, Millie and Emily formed a solid partnership, providing strength at the back.
The midfield was anchored by the dynamic trio of Ava, Paige, and Poppy, whose passing and movement would be crucial in controlling the game.
Leading the attack, Annabella took her place up front, ready to challenge the Bollington defence from the first whistle.
The game kicked off with New Mills in full force, showing their intent from the very start. The opening minutes were tightly contested, with most of the action unfolding in midfield.
Poppy, Ava, and Paige were commanding, threading beautiful passes and maintaining control.
With Millie and Emily solid at the back, there was little for the defence to do early on, other than moving the ball forward and supporting the attack. When Bollington finally mounted some pressure, Ebony in goal wasn’t fazed. She fearlessly charged into the action, distributing the ball with pinpoint accuracy and making vital saves when called upon.
The first real chance of the game fell to Annabella, who showcased her attacking prowess with a fierce shot on goal. The initial attempt was blocked, but her determination saw her follow up with two more efforts, just missing the target on her third strike. This moment set the tone, sparking New Mills' dominance for the rest of the match.
Poppy, with her sharp tackling and precise passing, was a constant presence in midfield, linking up with the forwards.
Paige delivered some deft touches, creating chances for her teammates, while Ava made relentless runs down the left wing, driving forward with pace and purpose. As the half progressed, Agnes and Jessica entered the fray, adding fresh energy to the team.
Jessica impressed with her timely tackles and clever passing, while Agnes put Bollington under pressure with a shot on goal and some crunching tackles. Ava even rattled the post as New Mills pushed for an opener.
The second half saw Annabella switch to goalkeeping duties and making some exceptional saves and confidently distributing the ball to set up attacks.
The breakthrough came from a well-rehearsed corner routine straight from the training ground.
Paige latched onto the set-piece and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom-right corner, giving New Mills a deserved lead. Next, it was Millie’s turn to shine. After some swift passes in the box, Millie smashed the ball into the corner of the net, capping off a brilliant team move and doubling the lead.
The defence remained resolute, with Jessica and Poppy continuing to work tirelessly up and down the pitch, and Emily commanding at the back, was instrumental in keeping the pressure on, driving forward with some excellent tackles.
And then onto Ebony who again found an opportunity and turned a chance into a well-worked goal.
Again, player of the week could have gone to a number of girls for their performance today but it was Millie’s all-round display, from commanding the midfield to her attacking runs and crucial goal, earned her the well-deserved Player of the Week award. Her exceptional passing, tireless running, and sharp decision-making were key to New Mills' fantastic performance.
Today's game was fantastic and one to remember for all our girls. Their teamwork, passion and hard work demonstrated from start to finish. Well done, girls!
