Nine of our ten girls took part in today’s match against Reddish, with Seren taking a well-earned rest, and despite not feeling 100%, Ava was determined to take part in the game. The match kicked off with Paige in goal, and although it’s not her preferred position, she put in a brave and confident performance, making excellent saves and distributing the ball well from the back.
In defence, Poppy and Annabella worked hard to keep the opposition at bay. Annabella showed her defensive skills with several crucial tackles, while Poppy, still learning the role, grew in confidence as the game progressed. Her ability to intercept passes and push the ball up the field helped keep our girls on the front foot.
Millie took control of the midfield from the first whistle, making several driving runs to the by-line and testing the goalkeeper with a number of shots. On the wings, Emily and Ebony showed great attacking intent, making intelligent runs forward while also tracking back to help in defence when needed. Their football awareness was impressive and played a key role in linking up play.
Leading the line was Agnes, who was a constant threat to the opposition. She put herself about, creating chances and, in a moment of brilliance, scored a fantastic goal, from a beautiful pass, and running solo before finishing clinically.
The substitutes played a crucial role as well. Jessica replaced Agnes up front and made an impact with her energy and defensive contributions, tracking back to make vital tackles. Ava started in defence and partnered well with Annabella, forming a solid backline that proved difficult to break down.
The second half saw a few tactical changes. Poppy stepped into goal and showed great composure, making several key saves, one, a beautful block with her feet and standing her ground well. Ebony dropped into defence alongside Ava, and both players read the game brilliantly, making important stops and clearing danger efficiently. Annabella was pushed forward into an attacking role and came close to scoring on a number of occasions, keeping the pressure on. Meanwhile, Millie continued her relentless running, creating problems for the opposition with her movement.
Paige moved into midfield and worked tirelessly, dropping back when needed and linking up play well. Emily and Jessica kept the pressure on with their energetic runs and precise passing, while Agnes continued to cause havoc, chasing down every ball and making life difficult for the defenders.
In the end, the whole team put in an excellent performance, showing their key skills of resilience, teamwork, and determination. Player of the Week was deservedly awarded to Millie for her relentless energy, strong tackles, and keen listening to the coaches’ instructions. A fantastic effort from everyone, well done!
