The most incredible thing about last weeks game, was how it was even played?!

Storm Darragh turned up in full force at 8:15am and decided to shake, rattle & roll it’s way over Stockport Sports Village for the entire game. It was atrocious weather and the warm up was proving difficult. As the rain came in sideways, we had a quick chat before kick-off and tried to think of the positives. We were playing under the floodlights…. In the morning! Every parents had turned up before 8am and didn’t even retreat to the stand for cover. On the sidelines with the lads cheering every tackle, pass & shot (They were in for treat). It’s proper footie family. The lads even mentioned a couple of things “Rain will not kill you” & “It’s the same for them as it is for us” - So good and true.

We also asked the boys to forget everything we have been doing in training and play direct. Big long balls over the top and loads of shooting from distance to get some early goals . . . . These lads just never let you down.

Frankie got things going with a lovely left-foot finish. He then did it again with his right. Albie had also read the memo and found the back of the net with a great strike. Oliver L was in his element. Launching shot after shot at the High Lane keeper who was amazing in such tough conditions. How none of them landed, I will never know?! Oliver L was on it. Possibly his best performance to date. So cool & calm at the back, he was starting every attack.

Now that Finley has taken a wider position, Oliver L has made sure he is first choice for that centre-back role. Finners is also buzzing in his right wing-back slot and the way he is taking on the opposition is simply sensational. Even more incredible was his contender for ‘Goal of the Season’. Hit first time, from way out, it brushed the underneath of the crossbar before bursting the net. Unbelievable strike from the smallest lad on the pitch with the biggest character.

Special mention to Fenn in goal. In such terrible weather he stayed focused and stood up to every challenge.

POTM went Oliver L 🏆

In the most horrendous conditions, he kept calm, showed his maturity and believed in himself. This filtered down to every single member of the team. True leadership skills on display when we needed them most. Well deserved Oliver L.
