The Hornets have been desperate to get going in 2025! They finished the year in tremendous form, cementing their place in the top-flight of The Stockport Metro League and the boys were eager to kick-on and test themselves against the best teams locally.
On the back of two excellent games against Hazel Grove & High Lane before Xmas, the instructions were simple . . . . . . Keep believing in each other & work harder than you ever have before.
This weekend we faced Bollie Bulls who have been on an incredible run this season and our Mini-Millers needed to focus and acknowledge the talent within the opposition, whilst being brave enough to accept the challenge and have the confidence to stamp their authority on the game. The Hornets were unreal!
Kai started in Centre Mid and this boy is growing in confidence every week. Man-of-the-Match last time out, Kai continued in the same vein and got The Hornets off to the perfect start. It was a real battle and Fenn made a couple of tremendous saves. Our defenders worked their socks off and before half-time, Frankie slipped in a perfect pass to Albie who finished in style.
Second-Half was all about grit & determination. Nobody was working harder than Finley. He was winning every challenge but more impressively, he was setting up the attacks too and Kai managed to get on the end of another great pass and put the ball in the back of the net.
Bollington are no pushovers and kept coming at us and this reminded our lads how important it is to stick to your defensive duties. To a man, Olive L, Frankie, Ronan & Finners were incredible! Fenn was also helping out the defence with his communication and decisive decision making between the posts and The Hornets looked safe & sound at the back.
Going forward, Bollington couldn’t handle our forward players. Oliver B was on it and managed to stifle Bollington attacks whilst creating attacking opportunities for he’s own team. Ollie M was happy to take the invitation and slotted home to give the boys some breathing space.
The Final Whistle was greeted with cheers and happy faces. I asked the Bollie Coach to nominate our POTM. He said they all deserved it. He complimented our work ethic & desire. He finally added “That No. 2 is like a Pitbull, never gives you a second and is brilliant at winning the ball back”
Player Of The Match – Finners🏆
