Match Report NMJFC U10s - 07/09/25

The U10’s kicked off their new season in style — beaming smiles, fresh kit, and new numbers! The lads looked sharp, and you could tell straight away they were buzzing to get going.

Today’s challenge was a local derby against High Lane Hawks.

We were missing Jackson, who’s recovering at home after his operation but was still cheering the boys. On the flip side, we welcomed Alfie into the squad for his debut!

From the very first whistle, the Hawks piled on the pressure. But our defence stood tall, and James was simply outstanding between the posts — pulling off some cracking saves to keep us in it.

Once we settled, the confidence grew, and the passing football started to flow. It didn’t take long before Rhys slid in a perfectly-timed ball for Stanley, who calmly slotted home our first goal of the new season.

But credit to High Lane, they didn’t back down. After a mix-up at the back, they brought it back to level terms.

Half-time came at just the right moment. A quick team talk, drinks, and a reminder to keep working hard. It paid off instantly, early in the second half, Stanley turned provider, threading a ball through to Dylan, who finished with class before breaking into his trademark celebration.

Now it was end-to-end football, the atmosphere felt more like a cup final than an opening fixture!

The highlight of the game almost came from Stanley, who launched a thunderbolt free-kick from close to halfway. It had the keeper beaten but crashed against the bar. The rebound sparked a goalmouth scramble, but the Hawks somehow survived.

As the minutes ticked away, some very tired legs showed, the step up in match time from last year really making itself felt.

Still, the boys gave absolutely everything. So much so, that it was impossible to pick a single standout. The whole squad deserved Player of the Match for their grit, energy, and teamwork.

A brilliant first outing, plenty of positives to build on, and huge excitement for the season ahead. Well done NMJ U10’s!
