Stockport Metro League
U11 Boys v Richmond Rovers Skys - 27/01/24
It was a slow start this morning at a cold Stockport Academy from our boys.
Although the slow start the boys battled hard to keep themselves in the game in the first half.
Not playing their best but hard passionate work meant they only went into the half time break trailing by a goal.
The boys were reminded at half time that they need to play their own game and not involved in kicking the ball long and high all the time.
The boys definitely didn’t disappoint in the second half. Energy levels improved and the boys started to play their passing game.
Oli C mixed up his kick outs, defenders Leyton, Brodie, Leighton got closer to their opponents not giving them any space or time on the ball.
This gave attacking players Tyler, Harry P, Sam, Bobby, Jimmy, Joseph, Harry F and Oli F plenty of opportunities to attack the Richmond goal.
With the change in approach it wasn't long into the second half before New Mills produced a cracking shot from the edge of the box by Jimmy.
Another individual goal soon followed when Tyler won the ball with a determined challenge before running the wing with the ball and striking his shot across goal to the opposite corner.
The game was finished the fine style with a world class free kick by Harry P giving the goalkeeper no chance curling the ball into the top corner.
Well done boys, your coaches were very happy the way you battled to change the game and performance in the second half.
Today's goals were scored by:
Jimmy ⚽️
Tyler ⚽️
Harry P ⚽️
The ‘brainmat’ players of the match this week goes to Tyler. Tyler was hungry for the ball today, great tackling, pressuring the opposition, and confident when on the ball.
Well done Tyler.
