Today’s match, as we’re finding increasingly common now, was a strong all-round team performance, built on confidence growing steadily through the match. Paige started in goal looking a little nervous at first, she quickly settled and grew into the game with real composure. She pulled off some excellent saves at key moments and distributed the ball brilliantly, setting the tone for the team’s attacking play. Her willingness to play accurate passes out from the back, including a particularly effective through ball, consistently put our girls on the front foot and helped launch attacks with purpose.
In defence, Poppy J and Ava were rock solid throughout. They showed great awareness and understanding, with one stepping forward while the other held position, maintaining balance at the back. Both players were calm on the ball, holding it up when needed and making smart passes out of defence. Their interceptions were well-timed, and their willingness to carry the ball forward added another dimension to the team’s play.
Across midfield, Florence operated on the left, Poppy D on the right, and Martha anchored the middle. Martha was outstanding in her holding role, breaking up play with strong interceptions and then driving forward when the opportunity arose. Her central run, taking on defenders and producing two shots on target, was a highlight. Florence showed great technical ability, using her feet and skills to beat players, while also showing maturity in knowing when to drop deeper to collect the ball and help move the team up the pitch. On the right, Poppy D brought energy and determination, never shying away from a challenge. Her powerful run down the wing and shot on target demonstrated both confidence and attacking intent.
Up front, Millie worked tirelessly, making intelligent runs and creating opportunities. She had a couple of efforts on target and a few that went just wide, but her movement kept the opposition defence under constant pressure. As the game progressed, Annabella and Evie came into the action, adding fresh energy. Annabella was particularly effective on the wing, covering the full length of the pitch with ease. She contributed defensively when required and transitioned smoothly into attack, linking play well and getting a couple of shots on target. Evie also made a strong impact in the middle, covering a lot of ground, getting stuck into challenges, and adding her own attacking threat with shots on goal.
The second half saw some positional changes, with Ava moving further forward and Annabella dropping back, while others rotated to adapt. Despite the reshuffle, the team maintained a solid passing game and continued to compete strongly all over the pitch. The willingness of every player to get involved and support each other stood out, and Paige remained a dependable presence in goal, continuing her strong performance.
The opposition manager even commented on the team’s passing style, praising the way the ball was moved and the determination shown by all the players. It was a real team effort, with everyone contributing and showing great spirit. Choosing a Player of the Week is becoming increasingly difficult, but this time it went to Ava for her excellent communication, teamwork, and ability to cover ground effectively, as well as adding to the attack with a couple of shots on target.
