Ava set the tone early with a confident start in goal, making a number of strong stops and, just as impressively, distributed the ball with composure, finding midfielders cleanly and helping the team build from the back.
It was a controlled, mature performance that gave everyone a boost from the first whistle.
Just ahead of her, Stevie took on a new defensive role with determination. Still learning the position, she held onto the ball well under pressure and made several important interceptions, showing real promise.
Beside her, Annabella was reliable and sharp, clearing the ball decisively and turning defence into attack. She read the play brilliantly, stepping in at the right moments and pushing the team forward.
Out on the left, Millie was a constant threat. She drove down the wing with power and confidence, cutting in dangerously and creating chance after chance. With four or five shots on goal, she kept the opposition under real pressure.
In the middle, Martha was everywhere—breaking up play, receiving passes from Ava, turning quickly and driving into the attacking third. Her energy set the tempo.
On the right, Poppy D roamed the pitch relentlessly. She had a couple of strong runs down her wing and forced the keeper into action with several shots on target. Up front, Florence embraced a new role with enthusiasm. She ran at defenders fearlessly and managed two or three shots on goal, showing quick feet and confidence.
Jessica came into midfield halfway through the half and made an immediate impact. She covered huge ground, put in solid tackles, and kept the ball moving with well-timed passes. Paige joined the attack and immediately challenged the keeper with accurate, testing shots. A standout moment came when Stevie intercepted high up the pitch, fed Jessica, and she spread it wide to Millie, who carved out a brilliant scoring opportunity.
Fresh from training, it was fluid, exciting football.
In the second half, Ava continued her excellent form – judging when to collect the ball and when to clear, keeping her distribution sharp. Florence switched to the left and created more chances with her direct running. Martha took the right side, dropping back when needed but always looking to push forward. Paige moved into the middle and, when told to run at defenders, did exactly that, beating three before the keeper made a fine stop.
Jessica moved up front and brought great energy, constantly involved and always looking dangerous.
Both Poppy D and Millie kept New Mills on the front foot, with Millie repeatedly pushing to the touchline and driving attacks. The breakthrough came beautifully: Annabella launched the ball forward, Florence controlled and played a lovely diagonal pass to Poppy D, who struck from near the corner flag – far post, perfectly placed. A superb goal.
It was, all around, one of the team’s strongest performances of the year. Players, coaches and parents agreed it was a joy to watch. And with her relentless runs, attacking intent, and great listening to coaching, Millie earned a well-deserved Player of the Week. 👏
