Today our girls put in a strong all-round performance against FC Bluestar U11 Zodiacs, showing great teamwork, effort, and development across the pitch.
In the first half, Poppy D started in goal and had a solid game, making her first-half saves when needed and distributing the ball well to her teammates. She didn’t have too much to do, but when called upon she played well. In front of her, Jessica and Annabella formed a determined defensive partnership.
Jessica put herself about well and made important stops, while Annabella was everywhere, producing some excellent tackles and blocks to shut down attacks.
Further up the pitch, Ava on the left worked hard, making good runs and passing the ball well to her teammates.
Joy battled tirelessly through the middle, getting involved in lots of challenges and helping to keep possession moving.
Stevie operated centrally and did a great job breaking up play and then passing the ball on quickly to her friends. On the right, Millie ran well with the ball and caused problems with her direct play.
Florence meanwhile played in a more forward role, which was new for her, but she adapted well. She showed confidence running with the ball, improved footwork, and got several shots away, along with Millie and Ava.
Paige was introduced and made an immediate impact. A standout moment came when Poppy D made a good save and quickly passed the ball out to Florence, who played a perfectly weighted through ball to Paige. Paige showed great strength, defending the ball against two players before getting her shot away and scoring a well-deserved goal. It was an excellent piece of team play and a very strong finish.
In the second half, Annabella stepped in as goalkeeper and did a brilliant job. She made several good saves, came confidently off her line to collect the ball, and acted as a sweeper keeper when needed. Stevie dropped back into defence and made some important stops alongside Jessica, who continued to defend well. Poppy D moved into midfield and worked hard, while Millie continued to make good forward runs. The team was rotated to give everyone opportunities in different positions, and Florence continued to get stuck in, driving forward with the ball. Ava seemed to be everywhere, supporting in defence and pushing on in attack whenever possible.
Overall, it was a really positive team performance full of effort and togetherness. Player of the Week was awarded to Ava for her outstanding work rate and all-round contribution, helping out defensively and constantly driving the team forward.
