Match Report NMJFC U11s Scorpions Vs Chinley - 20/09/25

Scorpions Match Report

A lovely and sunny morning began for the Scorpions (unexpected after last night’s storms). A couple of changes to the usual line-up saw Will starting on the left wing, Ted slotting into defence, and Captain Leo beginning on the bench – all things to discuss at training. But the job was the same as always: we play our game.

The Scorpions started brightly. Despite a few players in different positions, the high tempo remained. A long throw over the defence landed at Rocco T’s feet, only narrowly wide. Alfie followed up with a strike just over the bar.

Rocco T, not 100% fit but full of determination, shrugged off two defenders and went close again, before forcing the keeper into a block that Will couldn’t quite finish.

Then came the breakthrough. Will chased down the wing, cut inside, and his attempted cross deflected off a defender into the net ⚽️.

Dylan looked sharp throughout, testing the keeper with a flurry of shots – one saved, another pushed wide – while dangerous crosses whipped into the box just begged for a finishing touch.

Ted then launched a long ball for Rocco T to chase. After some battling, Rocco struck it home ⚽️. Moments later, Ted, still roaming forward, dribbled through defenders and smashed in a stunning goal ⚽️ – though his adventure up the pitch earned him a rest for leaving the defence exposed.

Second Half

The sun was now in our keeper’s eyes, and we knew the opposition would try their luck. Our response? Attack harder.

A big clearance bounced awkwardly, but Alfie read it well and buried it ⚽️. Soon after, Dylan’s looping effort caused chaos and went in via a defender ⚽️ – the second own goal of the match, but we’ll take it.

The boys kept the pressure on with shots from Ted, Leo, Rocco and Dylan. Dylan then laid it back to David, who threaded a clever pass through four defenders for Ted to finish ⚽️ – a brilliant assist.

Leo pounced on another defensive mistake ⚽️ before a cheeky backheel from Ted found Dylan, who crossed for Alfie to convert ⚽️. Just when it looked like the game was done, Dylan produced one last moment of magic – a superb dip over everyone for the final goal ⚽️.

While the goals flowed, the defence deserve huge credit too. Playing high up the pitch, they stayed alert to the bounce and chased everything back. Frankie was outstanding, adapting his game this season and flourishing. Despite the difficult sun in the second half, the backline and keeper stood strong.

Player of the Match: Will

An excellent performance in an unfamiliar role on the wing, showing great determination, strength, and adaptability. When switched back to his usual position, he carried that same energy and quality. Will is really growing in both ability and character.

Well done, boys – a fantastic team effort today.

⚽️🖤💛⚽️
