Match Report NMJFC U11s v Whaley Bridge Blues - 04/10/26
The boys were up early for an 8:15am kick-off at Stockport Sports Village against Whaley Bridge Blues.
It was Whaley Bridge who started the faster of the two sides, immediately pushing higher up the pitch and putting our defenders under pressure. We struggled in the opening stages to get the ball under control, with the wet surface making it move much quicker than the boys were used to and catching us off guard on a few occasions.
Despite that, New Mills scored, with Stanley producing a lovely finish.
From there, the boys started to settle and build into the game. The second goal came from Charlie, who showed great composure to take his time and finish an unrushed move, following a lovely cutback from Stanley.
Whaley Bridge remained a constant threat throughout, making the most of any mistakes and getting themselves back into the game whenever the opportunity arose. It made for a competitive game, with both sides having to work hard.
The second half started off with the Millers really started to kick into gear. The passing improved, the boys looked more comfortable on the ball and we began to create more opportunities. Stanley added to his tally, with Theo also getting on the scoresheet, before Rhys produced an exquisite free kick that was a real highlight of the game.
There were plenty of positives to take from the performance, particularly the way the boys responded after a difficult start and grew into the game as it went on.
⭐ Player of the Match – Charlie
A thoroughly deserved award for Charlie today. He was solid in midfield throughout, bringing a calmness to the team when we really needed it, and capped off his performance with a great goal.
Well done boys! 👏⚽
