Match Report NMJFC U11s v Wythenshawe Town - 9/3/24

Another cup game this week and unlike last week the boys started slow, struggling to keep the ball and settle into the game for the first 10 minutes. But in true New Mills style the boys battled hard to keep themselves in the game and compete.

Midway through the first half Remo made a great run right wing, before cutting in and finishing low into the corner for New Mills first goal of the game. This was the start of several attacks and Remo was unlucky not to have a few more goals in the first half. It was Bobby who added New Mills second before half time.

New Mills started the second half better, getting the ball on the ground and passing the ball better.

Oli C and his defence of Leyton, Eddie & Brodie started to control the play at the back.

Central midfielder pairings of Bobby, Harry P, Tyler and Joseph battled hard to break up the play through the centre and distribute the ball wide to  attacking players Remo, Sam, Harry F, Leighton and Oli F to pressure the opposition goal.

New Mills kept pressuring the opposition goals and with minutes to go they were rewarded a penalty. With no one wanting responsibility, Eddie grab the ball, placed it on the spot and blasted the ball to the bottom right corner giving the keeper no chance.

Remo finished the scoring for the Millers finishing nicely when the ball was loose in the opposition box.

Today's goals were scored by:

Remo ⚽️⚽️

Bobby ⚽️

Eddie ⚽️

The ‘brainmat’ players of the match this week goes to Leyton. Leyton was great today in defence, great pressing and tackling. Well done Leyton.
