It was a perfect day to end the season with the sun shining and the pitch freshly cut and marked.
The U12's looked confident and moved the ball around teasing the opponents to press, however, a couple misplaced balls gave Whaley the opportunity to take advantage and the lead. The lads regrouped and responded after a dangerous run from Dexter into the box who did an excellent job at getting his body across the defender and forcing the foul and penalty. Sam stepped up and calmly slotted past the keeper and got his first goal for the grass league.
Halftime 1-2
A quick goalkeeper change after halftime saw Travis in between the sticks and Jimbo upfront causing carnage to the opposition defence. The team conceded multiple times in a short period and any other team would have gave in but the midfield of Isaac, Kai and Reuben hounded the opposition snapping away at their feet.
It was on!
Our keeper come centre forward found the net as Pappus flew through the sky like confetti.
The Mini Millers pinned Whaley back as they sat deep to preserve their lead, the lads gave it their all and the attackers Jimbo, Rory & Dexter found more space to exploit. The lads had the momentum and corners were flowing as Rory found the bottom corner after Whaley failed to clear.
Copy & paste, the ball was swung in and the ball fell nicely again to Rory, who hit top corner for an opponent to handball it, although, the ref awarded the goal.
Well done Whaley for a great game of football and super determination from both sets of lads.
