The Millers faced local title rivals Whaley Bridge in a Sunday afternoon, top-of-the-table clash.
The Millers started the game brightly.
Archie was distributing well; the back four of India, Cole, Alfie and Stan were dominant in the duels and fed the ball quickly to the midfield three of Jess, Fletcher and Bobby, who in turn started fast-paced counter-attacks, with some excellent chances created by the tireless work of Bertie, Darragh and Mayson up top.
Mayson broke the deadlock with an excellent two-touch finish, with his back to goal, after Darragh picked him out with real accuracy.
Whaley responded well, grew into the game and scored a well-taken equaliser as they took control for a period. Archie made two excellent saves to keep the scores level, while the Whaley keeper kept out several good efforts from Darragh, Bertie and Bobby from distance.
The half-time message was more of the same, with the need to add a little more composure in the final third. Daniel came on for Stan and kept up the same defensive level to help control the Whaley attacks.
Bobby restored the Millers’ lead with an excellent left-foot finish after Mayson laid the ball into his path perfectly, following a Darragh corner that caused panic in the Whaley defence.
Mayson added a third with a great turn and finish from a full 25 yards out. The Millers introduced Alex at full-back and Greg into midfield, with Greeny taking over from Mayson up top.
After a period of control, the Millers allowed Whaley to score two quick goals to make it 3–3.
The Millers reacted superbly as Bobby slid the ball through for Bertie to finish calmly into the corner for the winner.
The Millers gained a well-deserved three points in what was a fierce local derby.
Mayson took the Player of the Game award for his goals, assists and relentless work rate for the team. 💛🖤
