The Millers started this tense semi cup final well, creating several good attacks but lacking the cutting edge to score.
Archie commanded the back line well and made several good saves to keep the visitors at bay, helped by strong defensive work from Alex, Alfie, Stan and Cole.
The Millers’ clearest chance of the half fell to Bobby as Darragh crossed from the left, and Bobby looked certain to score, but the Diversity keeper made an outstanding save to keep it all square at the break.
The Millers adjusted shape at the break, with Greeny coming on up top to support the good work Mayson was doing.
The Millers then took control. Jess and Bobby controlled midfield, and chances were now being created. Mayson headed narrowly over after another left-wing cross from Darragh. The Millers opened the scoring as Mayson dropped in at left-back and played Darragh in on the left to finish calmly.
The Millers were now on top, and Bertie began to have a huge influence in the last period of the game. Darragh beat his man and crossed to the back post, where Bertie smashed home the second with a “Haaland”-type scissor kick finish.
The Millers kept the energy levels up as Greg, Dan and Daniel all joined the game. Strong defending continued from the team, as Daniel protected the clean sheet well, along with India, who slotted in at right-back for Alex, while Greg and Dan worked the Diversity back line hard to the finish.
The third goal came as Darragh crossed a free kick to Bertie, who smashed home a left-footed shot from the edge of the box to seal a place in the cup final for the team.
The work rate and desire in the second half were a clear example of the willpower this team has to succeed and saw them run out deserved winners.
Player of the match was awarded to Stan and Jess for outstanding defensive displays for the team.
The coaches were pleased with the second-half reaction of the team and the spirit they showed to get to the final in their first season in the EMJFL.
