Match Report NMJFC U7's V Chapel Town Yellows - 3/3/24

The Mini-Millers we up against Chapel for the third time in as many weeks and we knew it would be another good test for this young group. The big difference was the trial of ‘Silent Support Weekend’ and this is the first time out kids have been out-on-the-pitch without any guidance or instructions from the Coaches.

We welcomed Coach Rick back but were without Finn so the boys needed to dig-deeper than ever before, to compete against a strong Chapel side . . . . . and they didn’t let us down!

First-Half Captain Reuben went in goal and once again showed everybody watching how much he is improving in this position. Another superb display and all that extra practice is clearly helping as time after time, he kept The Mini-Millers in the game.

Max & Teddy started in defence and these two wouldn’t look out of place in an Italian centre-half pairing as they are both so comfortable on the ball now and were setting up the attacks with their passing accuracy.

On the left was Ryan who was working hard and unfortunate not to break the deadlock.

Myles was upfront and although he was getting frustrated with the tight defending from the opposition, he started coming back and winning the ball himself to regain possession.

Both Ned and Aiden also got their chance to impress, coming off the bench and it was quite clear Ned was in the mood for a battle. Immediately, he was making goal-saving challenges and Chapel didn’t know what had hit them!

Half-Time allowed us to regroup and have a quick chat with the team about how we could improve. Quick passes, more shots, and running back were all discussed and as the game progressed, Chapel seemed to have the upper hand but most impressively for us ‘Muted Coaches’ - we noticed their heads didn’t drop and the boys began to grow and their desire was clear for all to see.

Myles ⚽️ scored a great goal and the lads began to build on that confidence a goal can give you. New Mills fought to the end and a very even set-off squads could both be proud of the improvement in every single one of the players.

Player of the Match went to Ned 🏆 who was incredible at the back! He never missed a tackle and showed us all what a tough little character he is. Fantastic Ned!

Next up is Chinley on Sunday and we are looking forward to another great game.
