Match report NMJFC U8's Hornets V Chapel Blues - 29/01/23

The Hornets were up for it this weekend. Every single member of the team that was available for selection arrived at Glossopdale early and prepared. We were raring to go and test ourselves against our ‘Nemesis’ that are Chapel Blues. I absolutely love the games against this fantastic team. The camaraderie between the two coaching teams is brilliant and whilst we chase their tails, it’s excellent that The Hornets have a realistic level of where we want to get to.

Finley & Oliver L offered to be goalies today, taking a half each. This is so important for our progression as a team. You both did brilliantly against a tough team and made some amazing saves. Whilst the game was an extremely tight affair, The Hornets were playing some incredible football. Going toe-to-toe with Chapel Blues, we matched up with them in every area of the pitch and then started scoring goals!

This game had it all - Penalties, missed penalties by both teams! Last-ditch tackles, amazing goals. Mistakes, own-goals & injuries. What I noticed most was The Hornets found another gear. The boys were playing confidently and trying new things…… It didn’t always pay-off but we will never discourage you from expressing yourself on the football pitch.

Real character & determination shown by a group of 7 & 8 year olds that believe in each other and fight to the very end. The kids did us proud and the future looks very promising. You boys are on a journey and as coaches we can see it. The most pleasing aspect is we have noticed you all creating friendships with each other. This will be invaluable as you get older.

Player of the Match was Oliver L 🏆 – Unwell prior to the game but he was never going to miss it. Instead he battled on and put in an outstanding performance both in defence & then in goal.
