It was a lunchtime kick off for our first game of 2024 for the U8’s against Wythenshawe Panthers in the Stockport Metro junior league.
There was certainly some nerves as it felt like forever since we last played before the Christmas break.
We started with James as goalkeeper, Rhys in defence, Stanley and Jackson in midfield and Charlie J as striker.
The boy’s building up some great passing from kick off and were prying at Wythenshawe to see how they responded.
The boys kept calm though and working on there build up, Stanley was soon in on goal and finished well.
It was time a for a change adding in Teddy into midfield and Charlie T into defence.
A small loss of concentration while the substitutes settled in gave Wythenshawe an opportunity on goal.
The boys soon settled into the game and were now in control, Charlie T keeping things clear at the back and Teddy making an impact in midfield and linking up well with Charlie J allowing Stanley to get another 3 in short succession.
Wythenshawe didn’t give up though and managed to claw back just as easy as we had done before the break.
A change around at half time allowed Rhys and Jackson back on, Jackson making sure nobody was getting past him and Rhys taking his chances on goal.
It really was a game that was starting to go end to end, with James goal keeping really being tested, and the Wythenshawe keeper doing equally as well to keep our attempts out.
A tough game today for the boys but as ever they held their own against a very well drilled side.
The player of the match award was given to Charlie J. Charlie was pivotal in our performance today, and whilst he usually plays as striker, found himself working hard in midfield for most of the game, getting lots of tackles in and getting the ball out wide.
