The U8’s were up against Heaton Whites, at Brinnington in the Stockport Metro league.
A late morning kick off, the Heatons were the first team we played against as U7’s back in September 22 so would be interesting to see how both teams have progressed.
We started with James as goalkeeper, Teddy and Charlie T in defence, Stanley and Jackson in midfield and Charlie J as striker.
The Boys started well with the Heatons immediately testing out our defence and goalkeeper, and the boys passing the ball well and setting up attacks.
New Mills were unlucky to go behind from a corner, before some excellent link up play from Stanley to put Charlie J in for a really well taken goal.
We brought in Rhys and Teddy moved to midfield and we were starting to build more attacks, with Stanley getting his reward shortly after with a lovely bottom corner strike.
There was plenty still to do at the back with Rhys, Charlie T and James all having to work hard.
Charlie T picked up a knock which meant Teddy dropped back to defence with Jackson going back into midfield.
Teddy and Rhys started to work really well together and with help from Jackson just ahead, the boys were able to keep the attacks at a minimum.
Charlie T replaced Charlie J as striker and started to cause the Heatons some trouble, getting his defensive tackles in at the other end of the pitch.
Stanley was still working really hard on the left building our play and put in a great ball which Charlie got on the end of and added to our score.
The Heatons turned up the pressure at this point and despite some great defensive work and saves from James, they got a goal back.
With only minutes to go we added Charlie J back in as striker and he didn’t disappoint added another goal in the last minute of the game.
A really great performance from the boys today, they worked so hard and didn’t give up at all, being rewarded in the last minute of the game.
It was only fair that they had a collective ‘player of the match’
