Match report NMJFC U8s Bees - 07/01/23
New Mills Bees Under 8's Vs Whaley Bridge Under 8 sharks
After what seemed an eternity of 'no football' or training due to the weather, all the Bees (minus Seren who couldn't shake off her cough/cold) were absolutely raring to go.
Coach Joe was also on hand to lend his expertise (his third match of the day by the way, thanks Joe!) so everyone was fired up. This Whaley team are new this year so we didn't know what we were up against.
The Bees started brightly with Alexander in goal, Rocco and Joshua shoring up the defence and Charlie and Leo in attack (Captain for the day was Charlie... which would prove to be a good omen)
What a great defensive pair Rocco and Joshua are, both tackled and cleared the ball and didn't stop running.
The Bees battled hard and won lots of tackles in the first half with Stanley getting stuck in time and again, some great passing through the team saw Leo manage to slot the ball past the Whaley keeper.
Some more excellent work from defence through to the attack saw Leo nip in again and slot home another, the Bees were now flying. After Joshua breaking down a Whaley attack, Leo got the ball in his own half and ran the length of the pitch almost and slotted home another...The first Bees hat trick. Alexander made some great saves to keep Whaley out throughout the first half.
Half time saw a change around with Stanley 'Safe hands' in goal and Toby playing defence/midfield. What a battler Toby is, tenacious and willing to get stuck in! Brilliant. Alexander kept running and chasing down the opposition and Stanley made some cracking saves to keep Whaley out... he's not called 'Safe hands' for nothing.
The second half saw Charlie get his shooting boots on... whatever Leo could do, Charlie was equal to it. It's been a long time coming, but Charlie's never say die attitude was all too evident today, he kept running and tackling and scored not 1... not 2....... but scored 3 magnificent goals and even after being fouled and having to come off, within 60 seconds he was asking when he could go back on!
All 7 of the Bees really played brilliantly and tried their best today, they should all be proud. It was a pleasure to see happy faces at the end of the match. POTM was awarded to Charlie for never giving up, always trying and scoring some great goals.
