Match report NMJFC U8s Hornets - 05/03/23

This weekend we shared the the field with Chapel Town for the early Kick-Off at 8:45am. Football has an incredible way of coming together at the toughest times and after the devastating news of Paul Hawtin passing, we stood together in silence to remember and pay our respect to one of HPJFL family that has left this life far too early. Our thoughts are with his family at these toughest of times.

The game was an absolute cracker and every time we match up against the Chapel Town teams, we know we have to be on our A-Game. The first half was tense and the two teams cancelled each other out by not allowing the attacking players time on the ball. The Hornets took the early advantage.

Oliver L & Finley were incredible in defence. Tough tackling and then composed on the ball. They were in unison as they played the ball out from the back and with Frankie behind them after offering to go in goal for the first half, The Hornets looked solid.

The forward line was full of energy and as we rotated Oliver B, Albie & Ollie M. Now the opposition found it difficult to handle the way we zipped the ball around. Albie was pulling the strings again and since he has added that ‘Killer Pass’ to his game The Hornets have flourished. Nobody more so than Oliver B who was lethal in front of goal and finished the game taking home the match ball ⚽️⚽️⚽️

Well done Oliver B!

The second half almost didn’t happen as we had a few complications selecting a Goalie! Not one of the players were prepared to go in goal…. And this is something we will work on now as coaches. Luckily Oliver L came forward and showed once again, his maturity within this group. Oliver L in the first half, had just played his greatest performance to date for The Hornets and it was wonderful to see him back on his game. In goal he was absolutely amazing and was winning tackles well up the pitch which allowed the outfield players to demonstrate the qualities they possess.

The boys were showing a level of belief in each other and began to knock the ball around with what can only be described as ‘swagger’. Some of the passing was staggering to watch. Individually they are all progressing.

What pleases us Coaches most is the way they anticipate and understand the qualities of their team mates. Nobody displayed this more than Albie ⚽️ Superb!

Finley was on fire! He never misses a challenge and his bravery saved 3 or 4 certain goals. Finley has added so much more to his game now. He is a genuine threat moving forward and let off a couple of fantastic shots that on another day, would have gone in. Frankie ⚽️ was outfield now and it was obvious he was in the mood. Setting up the attacks with his great passing range and even hitting the back of the net with an incredible shot from distance (It was definitely a cross).

Ollie M was showing us once again, how he can match up with the rest of them. Always wanting to be on the ball, either in defence or attack. Ollie M ⚽️ got his reward for the hard-work, with yet another goal.

Player of the Match – Oliver L 🏆 who was back to his best.

Keep it up Mini-Millers 💛🖤⚽️
