Match report NMJFC U9 Bees v Whaley Bridge Sharks U9 - 14/01/24

A chilly afternoon at Glossopdale today saw a depleted Bees take on a Whaley team who we had some success against earlier in the season.

Today we were missing Rocco and David so to ensure we could field a team, we borrowed Finley and Frankie C (who’s fast becoming an honorary Bee 🐝)

We started with Stanley in goal (more on that later) Finners and William in defence, Millie, Brooke and Leo across the middle with Charlie out front.

Will was captain for the day and did the obligatory rock, paper, scissors for kick off. As soon as the game was underway, the Bees piled on the pressure. Our usual passing game was working wonders making the ball do the work.

We were bunching a little but still finding some great passes out to the wings. Millie was on fire on the left, Leo was making runs on the right (still not 100% but he wouldn’t miss this game)

Some great work down the left from Millie, receiving the ball from Will, put Charlie through to hit goal number 1 ⚽️ The Bees were up and firing now.

Leo made a great run down the right, crossed for Charlie to knock in a second only for it to be ruled out for the ball going over the touch line 🤦🏻‍♂️

This didn’t deter the Bees. Leo made another telling run on the right and was brought down by a Whaley defender. Leo got up, looked at the situation and took a clever free kick, passing the ball straight through to Millie who smashed in goal number 2⚽️

More great passing from Brooke and Finners through to Charlie and Leo saw them making great runs forward. Each trying to put the ball on a plate for their teammates.  Brooke played a delightful ball through for Millie who put in number 3⚽️.

Quick change to give Leo a rest and bring on Frankie C. Straight away Frankie was in the mix, our stalwart defender keeping the Whaley attack out.  Another great break by the Bees saw Millie smash in number 4⚽️ (and Millie’s first Bees hat trick)

Half time - team talk was easy, keep passing, make the ball do the work. During half time, Stanley asked to play outfield.. so a quick swap saw Frankie C in goal. Stanley would make another appearance later…….

Second half and the Bees started as they finished the first half. Pressure and some superb passing through the whole team. Will was great at stopping Whaley attackers going past him 👍🏻 Finley was determined to get on the scoresheet (he’d had a crack or two in the first half)

Some more superb passing moves from the back through midfield saw Brooke take hold, knock it through to Millie who absolutely walloped in number 5⚽️

Not to be outdone, Brooke then took control and buried number 6⚽️ the team had really found their rhythm by now and were passing the ball to each other, then moving to look for the second pass. It was brilliant to watch. Millie wasn’t finished yet and controlled a pass and hit number 7⚽️

Another sub saw Stanley come on in an outfield role. Whilst he was playing at the back, Stanley clearly had a taste for pushing forward… he was looking to get involved.  A break from midfield meant Leo picked up the ball and ran forward, a quick one-two, and Leo buried his first of the game and the Bees 8th goal⚽️.  Finley came on for Leo and was absolutely tenacious .. determined as always.  The Bees weren’t finished yet, the only way to describe it is a ‘marauding run’ from Stanley who came close to scoring …. Great effort.

I say this every week, but every single one of the players should be proud of the performance they put in, it’s a team game and they played like a real team. The player of the match trophy went to them all, they all supported each other and played brilliantly 🐝⚫️🟡⚫️🟡
