Season 3 - Episode 26: Unbelievable Jeff!
Super Sunday's don't get much bigger than this one! United vs Liverpool on the telly and New Mills under 9's vs Team Goal Girl's U10's at the Mike Doyle Centre in Reddish 💥
This was our 9th meeting of the season, 4 wins for them, 3 wins for us, 2 draws, 1 penalty shootout, 65 goals scored between us and plenty of sweets exchanged at the final whistle! Today was the big one though... the Stockport Metro JFL Lyme Event Trophy Final 🏆
The neighbours on the local estate must have thought it was the World Cup Final in the Maracana with the noise coming from the crowd! What played out in front of us was nothing short of a spectacle! An intense, fast paced game played at 100mph between two teams who quite simply bring out the best in one another, everyone raised their game for this one!
There were moments in the game that you couldn't help but applaud, regardless of which team you came to support. The passing, the runs, the shots, the saves, the tackles that went flying in... honestly I was shattered after the first 10 minutes and I was only stood there watching it!
Reuben, Teddy and Max just refused to let anything past them, denying every opportunity with some top class saves and important last ditch tackles! The noise coming from behind their goal was enough to put anyone off but these lads thrived off it and in the end it just made them more determined than ever to keep that clean sheet well and truly intact!
Harrison and Ned kept the engine room ticking over, breaking up the runs from midfield and sending the forwards on the attack! They won their battles in the middle of the park and just like they've done all season they ran their socks off!
Finn, Myles and Leon... what a combination, they were relentless! They pressed high up the pitch and created chance after chance, forcing their keeper into making some top saves once again! I'm not exaggerating but Finn was on another planet to everyone else, he's different gravy that lad! Between the 3 of them they worked tirelessly, tracking back to help the team defend but it was Finn and Leon, our newly crowned golden boot winner who got us the goals in the end, with Myles unlucky not to add to his tally with a curling effort that was tipped onto the bar and over! Finn completed his hatrick with an unstoppable free kick from distance that sent the yellow and black section of the ground wild... unbelievable Jeff 🚀
Ryan, Mia and Joseph brought some much needed energy when we needed it the most, ensuring they were ready to rock n roll when called upon, each of them contributing massively to get us over the line 😁💪🏻🏁
This was an outstanding effort from every single one of those kids, unreal passion, workrate and commitment from the first whistle to the last, they quite simply refused to be beaten! It was their moment today and they got what they deserved after what's been a difficult season in the league, playing against older teams, having no subs for a lot of games and even having to play with a player less at times... but they've taken it in their stride, growing as footballers and most importantly growing as little people! They were giants out there today and as coaches we couldn't be more proud! They are a credit to their families and everyone involved with the club 👏
Commiserations to Team Goal, a group of girls that are fearless, feisty and one of the best teams we've come up against! Keep setting an example to the youngsters who watch and inspiring them to put on their footy boots 🩵🩶
As for our under 9's... they are just getting started! They'll be some changes coming in the summer but we've got big plans for these little superstars! Tournament season kicks off next week and we can't wait, keep smiling kids, keep enjoying it and keep shining 💛🖤
