A full Wasps line up for the match against Whaley Bridge Sharks. A fine October day for football and each of the Wasps were ready for the challenge.
After some passing practice before going on to the pitch, they formed a defence versus attack routine in the warm-up, a strong sign that some of the drills from training are beginning to come through to match day.
The Wasps made a strong start to the game, putting the Sharks under constant pressure. The front line led by captain Dylan on the left, Kai on the right and Rocco through the middle troubled the Sharks defence from the outset.
On the occasions the Sharks did manage to break through the Wasps front line, the starting defence pairing of Jacob & Alexander stood strong, pushing the ball forward.
Alfie running tirelessly in midfield, linking defence to the forward line to make sure the ball stayed in the oppositions half.
Passing into space and great communication saw the Wasps rewarded with goals from Dylan & Rocco and a strong finish to the 1st half.
The Sharks started the 2nd half well, asking a few questions of the Wasps defence.
In response, last weeks player of the match Sam took a central position in front of the defence to stop the Sharks further up the pitch.
Kai chased ball down throughout the game to get the Wasps on the attack, and his efforts were rewarded with a fine finish to see the Wasps finish a great game of football on top.
For his overall performance and constant pressing of the Sharks defence Dylan was awarded this week’s player of the match.Well done Dylan!
All the Wasps should be proud of themselves. Every one of them giving 100% and showing great team spirit which was reflected in a great team performance.
Well done Wasps!!
