Despite the worries that Storm Babet was going to put a dampener on this weekend’s match, Saturday morning turned out to be another lovely day, and the pitches at Marple proved that they were certainly ‘all weather’.
We were expecting a difficult, and exciting game this week, and once again, both teams did not disappoint! We were one short this week, with Agnes missing from the squad…get better soon Agnes 😊.
At the beginning of the season, all the Coaches expected to struggle getting volunteers to play in goal, but nothing could be further from the truth as each week, some of the girls are asking. This week we had Paige playing in the net, she’d been nervous about playing in goal as her last time, she took a shot on the nose. But, as we’re trying to get everyone to play in all positions, we convinced her to have another go.
Paige was very brave, and after having a go during training on Monday she was ready again. And what a great performance, well done Paige (she even wanted to stay in for the second half!!!).
Millie was the willing volunteer for the second half. Both girls put in terrific performances, putting in some great saves, and were brave in collecting the ball from oncoming attackers.
With Paige in goal for the first half, we were hoping foranother player would step-up in front of goal, and Ebony did not disappoint, scoring a wonderful goal with an excellent finish into the bottom corner after a great pass from Paige.
As usual, the goal was greeted with huge smiles from the whole team, and a massive roar from the WolfCat Ultras.
All the girls played well, and again showed signs of improvements. Seren put in some excellent tackles in midfield, and nearly set Paige up for what would have been a great goal.
Millie and Emily put in some great defensive tackles.
Jessica and Ava are growing in confidence week by week and we’re reading the game well, but this week’s player of the match was Annabella, whose boundless energy and enthusiasm is a pleasure to see.
Well done everyone.
